There are a couple of important federal actions we can take this week – we’re urging everyone who cares about solar to take a few minutes to make your voice heard.
As we all know, the solar industry should be the shining light on a path to a new, green economy in the post-Covid recovery. We provide solid jobs, lower people’s utility bills, and can provide inexpensive power for low-income community members – all while simultaneously providing the most accessible, proven technology to fight the climate crisis that still looms ahead.
Here are two ways you can help get this message across – both actions are quite urgent and time-sensitive, so please don’t delay. Tell the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) not to push us backward, and tell Congress that solar is the way forward:
- First: A shady group of fossil fuel interests have filed a motion with FERC to overturn a 40-year-old precedent governing people’s ability to participate in net metering. If successful, this would reduce your full compensation for solar net metering and threaten the investments of solar owners, not to mention the industry as a whole. Bottom line, it would make going solar much less financially feasible, and therefore reduce solar’s ability to help people and help the planet. We can’t let this happen. - Second: As the Senate considers the HEROES Act, which appears to include money for the dirty fossil fuel industry and nothing to support a green economy, we need to keep pushing Congress to help the solar industry, specifically with full utilization and extension of the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC).
