You have many options when it comes to solar panels, and Ipsun’s engineers and designers will suggest several options that are tailored to your specific needs. LG panels will often be on the list of possibilities, so it’s important to know the highlights and features that set LG solar panels apart. A great benefit of choosing LG panels (also referred to as PV modules) is that LG is a brand you know and trust, and probably have in your home already.
Choosing the right panel is an important decision—after all, they’ll be on your roof for many decades to come. Choosing LG panels can give you the confidence that comes from greater efficiency, performance, and savings through the lifetime of your solar system.
Here are a few important highlights to think about when you’re considering LG panels for your solar project:
LG’s Assembly Plant in Huntsville, Alabama
LG has been researching and making solar panels for 30 years, and their NeON® 2 solar panels are assembled in the United States at their factory in Alabama. At a time when many people want to understand the supply chain that their solar panels follow, LG offers great transparency and visibility. The solar cells are made at their facility in South Korea and sent to the US factory to be assembled.
LG is committed to investing in the economy and workforce of the United States. The solar panel assembly plant in Huntsville, Alabama created 160 new jobs in that community. 500 megawatts of LG NeON® 2 panels are now being manufactured annually in the United States. Check out this fascinating video of their solar panels being made.
LG NeON® 2’s Award-Winning Cello Technology™
Cello Technology (Cell connection with Electrically Low loss, Low stress and Optical absorption enhancement) improves light absorption through circular-shaped wires that scatter light more effectively. That boosts your power output. Cello uses 12 thin wires in each cell instead of the usual large three to five busbars. The circular wires scatter light more efficiently than conventional flat wiring. The technology also makes the panels less vulnerable to power losses due to microcracks.
You can actually see the difference with Cello Technology™ because it provides a uniform, more pleasing appearance. Sleek aesthetics and a smooth texture achieve a popular, modern look.
N-Type cells mean higher performance over time
A bit of technical info highlights LG’s performance advantages. Typical solar panels use “p-type” cells which include boron (B)-oxygen (O) pairs. These B-O pairs in the p-type cells eliminate electrons that could be generating energy. Instead, LG panels use N-type solar cells that use phosphorus instead of boron. That means they are immune to boron-oxygen defects, which cause decreased efficiency and purity in p-type structures. N-type cells are in turn more efficient and are not as affected by light-induced degradation (LID). In fact, after 25 years, the modules are guaranteed to produce at least 92.5% of their labeled power output.
All LG Solar panels are designed for high efficiency
LG Solar provides high-efficiency panels that generate more power from the same amount of sunlight than lower-efficiency panels of the same size. That extra efficiency enables the panels to produce the same amount of energy with 60 cells as many panels produce with 72 cells. High-efficiency panels are an advantage on smaller roofs or on roofs that experience some shading. They can also leave room for array expansion in the future.
LG panels have a low LID (light-induced degradation) rating
Solar panels degrade over their lifetime and can produce less electricity each year. NeON® R panels have a very low annual degradation due to the use of n-type treatment of the cells. Over the warrantied lifetime of a system, LG panels will typically experience 10% less degradation than more economical panels. This adds up to significant dollars of additional electricity production over the years with LG NeON® R panels.
Hot days are no problem for LG panels
Solar panels usually generate less power as they get hotter. On a hot summer day, panels can reach temperatures as high as 158 °F* and experience a significant performance loss. LG NeON® 2 and NeON® R panels have very low temperature coefficients, meaning they perform better in high-temperature conditions than panels with higher temperature coefficients.
Your system will stand up to tough weather
LG Solar panels are highly durable. They’re built to withstand rain, snow, hail, humidity, and other challenging weather conditions. LG tests every panel against these conditions in their in-house testing laboratory. Your system is even designed to stand up to a hurricane. LG Solar panels are characterized by their maximum load capacity. They feature a durable double-walled frame that can withstand a front load of 5,400 pascals (Pa) and rear load of 4,000 Pa.
Peace of Mind with a 25-year Warranty
LG is a trusted global brand that stands behind its solar power products. LG’s NeON® solar modules are backed by a 25-year limited warranty that covers product-related issues and a 25-year performance warranty that guarantees NeON® modules will continue to produce at least 92.5% of their original output for a quarter of a century—a far higher rate than the 80% guaranteed for many solar modules. LG Solar will also pay up to $450 of any labor costs in the rare case of a needed module repair or replacement.
